Mary Makrilias’ artwork and art world after 35 years explores the relationship of color, nature and space. What starts out as hope, soon becomes vivid, and evokes a great sense of excitement and curiosity. Having worked in many mediums she is often amazed at the styles she has yet to explore. Whether from a delicate flowers intricacy, to the fur on an animal, it leaves her mind open to vast interpretation. Her belief is “Artistry has no error, it is individual and unique as you are” There is never a sense of failure only an opportunity to a new beginning. She does not set out determined to produce art about any given subject. She allows her day-to-day experiences to influence the creative process. Often making use of a sketchbook to jot notes of subjects or mediums she would like to investigate and color combinations that thrill her. Surprisingly it takes her to wonderful places. She is forever drawing, and perfecting her craft. Sometimes the drawings are left in the sketchbook and other times they develop into more in-depth ideas and detailed images. During her research, she seeks new areas of interest that lead to the next body of work. “Never limit yourself to one subject, one color or one style after all your ideas are limitless.”
